Local Activities – Annual Children’s Holiday Party

Old Dominion (VA) Chapter held its Annual Children’s Holiday Party for Prince William County OHCD Family Self Sufficiency Program was held December 17, 2011 at the Dr. A.J. Ferlazzo Building, 15941 Donald Curtis Drive, Woodbridge, Virginia 21191.  Attendees learned about and observed artifacts for multicultural holiday celebrations.   Toys were donated by guests at the chapter’s Christmas Party, ODC members and Toys for Tots.  Chapter members and Youth Embracing Success mentees sorted the toys the evening before the event.  Old Dominion Chapter extended a partnership with the Northern Virginia Affiliate of the Granville Academy, a youth Entrepreneur and S.T.E.M. mentoring program, for the mentees of both programs to help Santa present gifts to the children in the Family Self-Sufficiency Program.  One hundred forty–four children received toys and approximately two hundred people attended the Annual Children’s Holiday Party.

One hundred forty–four children received toys who may have otherwise not received a present or toy during the holidays.  Approximately two hundred people enjoyed games, learned about global holiday celebrations and enjoyed a festive holiday luncheon at the Annual Children’s Holiday Party.

The Youth Embracing Success and Granville Academy Northern Virginia Affiliate mentees learned the importance of "giving back" to the community.  They also experienced the joy of service as they assisted Santa and observed how happy the parents and children were who attended the event.
